What They Do

Floristry

A florist is a professional who specialises in floral arrangement for the purpose of decoration, florists are internationally used, from huge warehouses who ship to huge supermarkets, to a small roadside stand in more rural areas. The majority of people will use a florist at some point during their life, from Mothers days, Valentine's day, Easter, birthdays, summer, anniversaries, weddings, funerals or even just a gift.

Florists traditionally work from cut flowers, although they do work with potted plants too, they do not grow their own flowers, but get deliveries, normally daily, from nurseries, gardeners and horticultural specialists.

Florists do not generally require professional training, but young florists normally work as an apprentice next to a skilled florist who can teach how to display flowers. A good florist has a great eye for colour and aesthetics, when it comes to arrangement. They must also be able to work in a stressful area with multiple projects going on at the same time.

Most florists sell both pre-arranged flower bouquets, at a set price, but will also make a bouquet from the stock they have, as requested by the customer, they don't just deal in fresh flowers, but also offer dried flowers, foliage and other planting materials.
